Belize formerly known as British Honduras, is a tiny country nestled between Mexico and Guatemala in central America. Belmopan is the capital city with modern infrastructure that can be compared to any developing country. With mixed ethnic races forming the population, the people are fun loving with perfect mix of diverse cultures.

Belize has ninety percent of its land under forest, possessing the world’s largest cave system in the world. As a tourist, you cannot miss this breathtakingly beautiful country with majestic 3,675 feet high Maya mountains with the well preserved remnants of the Mayan civilization featuring ancient Mayan temples and tombs, which can be trekked over through the forest tracks.

Spanish and English are the commonly spoken with intermingling of local dialects but people are friendly and courteous. Fishing and scuba diving are the popular aquatic sports available all year round as Belize has 200 miles of the Belize Barrier Reef, longest in the western hemisphere, second only to the Great Barrier Reef.

Thus, the country attracts marine biologists along with aqua sports enthusiasts - scuba divers, sports fishing, surfing and sailing are equally popular. Due to the rich marine and terrestrial biodiversity offered by the country, with conservation efforts, it is fast evolving as a favorite hotspot for tourists seeking adventure sports experiences.

However, poor infrastructure and badly maintained roads make it slightly difficult to commute but its rich heritage, cultural diversity and unique eco- sport activity has increased tourist traffic to the country that has increased over the years.

Although Belize has a tropical climate but the best months to visit are December to May which is heavy tourist season and accommodation should be booked in advance. However, for budget travelers, the rainy months of June to November are also comfortable as hotels are cheaper and offer discounts.
