Home > Australia > Western Australia Western Australia Travel Guide and Lodging DirectoryWestern Australia, as the name implies, is a very large state that covers the western part of the Australian continent. While not being the most populous state, it is definitely the largest in terms of land area and covers approximately 30% of the Australian main landmass. It is home to a number of natural regions that tourists visit every year and in addition to that its capital city of Perth is home to a number of interesting sights that people enjoy seeing.Getting to Western Australia is reasonably easy and this is mostly due to the presence of Perth. Perth has an international airport which is the only airport in all of Western Australia that is able to regularly receive international flights. If you are planning a vacation in Western Australia, then it is a good idea to try and get a flight to Perth in order to save yourself a lot of driving time. You can definitely reach Perth from one of the other major cities through the Australian road system; it will just be a long, hot and potentially irritating trip. There are of course many places to visit in Western Australia, both urban and rural in nature. The best rural areas to visit are the national parks located in Australia. In particular, Purnululu National Park has to be first on the list as it is arguably the premier national park in the state of Western Australia. This is mostly because it is home to the Bungle Bungle range of sandstone formations. The aboriginal Kija people of the area gave the area the name Purnululu and that is now the name of the national park. There are few sandstone ranges around the world that are as spectacular as the ones found at Purnululu and any tourist that misses out on the opportunity of visiting this area while in Western Australia will be missing out on making their trip as good as possible. For people that don’t enjoy rural attractions, there is always the city of Perth. Perth has been described as being one of the most isolated places in the world and since its 1.3 million people is about three quarters of the population of Western Australia; this description does indeed seem very apt. Nevertheless, there is a lot of fun to be had in this isolated state capital. There are theater productions and concerts to be seen in Perth, as well as a number of sporting events. Additionally, people that have more of an aquatic bent in them but want to stay in the city can take a ride down the beautiful Swan River. Perth was built around the Swan River and many companies offer tours up and down the river’s length. |
