The interesting thing about the Northern Territory is that it is one of the least populated areas in Australia but at the same time it is one of the most popular areas amongst tourists. The reason for this is that it is a tropical area and is home to a lot of beautiful wildlife and vegetation. People that visit Australia in order to get out into the wilderness and rough it enjoy visiting the Northern Territory and even people that are looking for a more cosmopolitan getaway also enjoy visiting one of the tourist destinations located within the Australian Northern Territory.

In terms of getting to the Northern Territory, there is not much choice available. However, the transportation situation is much improved from where it was a few years ago. The trans-Australian highway has been completely paved and provides the ability for you to drive right into the territory itself without having to drive along any bumpy dirt roads. In addition to the highway, there is also railway service going to the Northern Territory that has been around for the last three or four years. Those are the two best options, as well as the only two regularly available options for reaching the northern territory.

Once you reach the Northern Territory, there is lots to do and lots to see. The vast majority of the tourist attractions in the territory are natural and showcase some of the rich ecological diversity that is present within the Australian continent. Because of the geographical location of the Northern Territory, the climate is actually much closer to the climate in the south-eastern Asian countries than it is to the rest of Australia. There is very definite dry and wet seasonality, so if you are visiting during the July and August months, make sure you come prepared for a lot of rain.

There are around a dozen natural parks in the Northern Territory that are worth seeing as each natural park has something unique to offer to its visitors. The most famous national park in the Northern Territory without a doubt is the Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park. While you may not recognize the park under this specific name, you will definitely recognize it by the huge rocky formation that is at its heart. This park, formerly known as Ayers rock, is one of the biggest tourist attractions in the whole country and if you only see one place in the Northern Territory during your trip, make sure it’s this park.
