New South Wales is the oldest region on the Australian continent. When the British first came to settle Australia, they created a colony that eventually became a large part of the New South Wales province. With a population of just under seven million people, New South Wales is also the most populous region in the whole country. Its state capital is Sydney, which is not only the most populous city in the country but also the oldest city in the country.

As far as travel goes, NSW can be reached by all three major forms of travel; air, land and sea. Kingsford-Smith International Airport is located in Sydney and is the largest airport in the country. It services hundreds of different flights on a daily basis and most travelers to Australia, especially if most of their trip centers around NSW, end up flying into this airport. Of course there are other airports that receive international flights (most notably the one in Melbourne) and people that start their vacations in other parts of the country can easily travel Australia’s road network to reach New South Wales. New South Wales also has an extensive shoreline that boasts a number of docks that receive passenger liners on a daily basis.

Much of the tourism activity that happens in NSW is centered around either the aquatic experience or alternatively the wildlife experience. Sydney is a very cosmopolitan city and because of that has a number of great restaurants, bars, nightclubs and theaters but the places that have their pictures on the postcards usually either belong to the aquatic activity or the wildlife categories.

Sydney harbor is the perfect example of that. It is a place immortalized in photographs all the time, but it is also a place that has a number of great tourist attractions. Everything from paddle boating all the way up to guided ferry tours is available at Sydney harbor. Animal lovers will have a great time in New South Wales as it is home to four of the premier international animal areas.

The Western Plains Zoo in Dubbo is an open range zoo and research center, the Taronga Zoo is a normal zoo with great animal life located in Sydney, the Featherdale Wildlife Park is also in Sydney and is home to some of the most breathtaking zoo scenes anywhere and last but certainly not least the Australian Reptile Park is world renowned for its reptile collections.

There is lots to do and lots to see in New South Wales and no trip to Australia is complete without a foray into this Australian province.
