Republic of Armenia, previously a part of USSR is a landlocked mountanous country located in Eurasia between the Black Sea and Caspian Sea.It shares its borders with Turkey, Georgia, Azerbaijan and Iran.

Historically, the first nation to adopt Christianity in the world. Echmiadzin is the religious capital of Armenia and is the place of residence of the katolikos of the Armenian Church. However, Yerevan is the official capital of the country, being centrally located and the hub of all cultural and economic activity.

Monasteries at Sanahin and Haghpat, and a basilica in Odzun, near the Alaverdi town, are really worth a visit. Other interesting place to visit is the Monastery at Geghard and can be visited as day trips. The monastery was constructed in 1215 in the Kotayk province and has been declared a UNESCO World heritage site. While Garni is another interesting place that has historical significance. Remnants of an ancient preserved building, a Parthenon like temple remains along with King’s palace, bath house and other constructions.Armenia has many sites that testify Christian origins.

As the terrain is mountaneous, adventure sports are being developed and skiing is getting popular.Tourism is being boosted and Armenia’s fast flowing rivers are being developed for adventure tourism. You can go for river rafting, kayaking and other aqua sports.

The best time to visit would be in autumn, as it is the most breathtaking season with crisp weather, misty mornings and auburn trees. In case, you have skiing in mind, then visit a small but rapidly expanding resort at Tsaghkadzor, 40min drive north of Yerevan. December to March is the right time for skiing. If you want to avoid the winter chill, come and visit from May to October.
