It is well connected with both air transport and water transportation facilities from Porto Rico and neighboring mainland. Travelers generally arrive on scheduled flights from Puerto Rico, Antigua, or neighboring St Maarten. Although facility of ferry service offers a direct 30 min. ferry service to Blowing Point on the south coast of the island about 2 miles from the capital, The Valley. Tourist attractions are not many but it is the right place to come and relax, with white sand and blue sea, calming the mind and the body. Sandy Ground village on Road Bay is the main port and the center of nightlife on the north coast. Cap Juluca, Cuisinart and Malliouhana, Temenos are popular luxury resorts on the island which are located on the west side. Accommodation is not a hassle unless you plan to come near Christmas and New Year, when advanced reservations might be necessary. Apart from the luxury resorts, many smaller resorts and guest houses are also available for a budget traveler. There is no public transportation but one can always hire a two wheeler or a car for going around at low rates. The best time to visit is around mid December to mid April. The average temperature is 80 degrees and is pleasant to be out in the sun. It becomes expensive around the festive season of Christmas, when the prices almost double. Avoid visiting during June to November when the island is prone to hurricanes and torrential rainfall. |
