Andorra Travel Guide and Lodging DirectoryAndorra is a little known country and in many ways because of that is a little known gem. When people travel to Europe, there are certain countries they go to. People go to Spain and France because these are the places where tourists have traditionally flocked. Many people actually overlook Andorra which is really their loss because not only does Andorra have the location to make it a fantastic place to go to, but it also has the tradition and tourism economy that can give you a lot to do if you decide to visit.Andorra is nestled into an area of Europe that places it right between France and Spain; the two tourism superpowers of the European Union. Being in between these two tourism superpowers is what got Andorra’s tourism industry started. A lot of the fallout from these two countries ends up coming to Andorra and while the Andorran culture is very much influenced by its proximity to both Spain and France, at the same time it has a very appealing culture that is all its own. The capital city (which also happens to be the biggest city) of Andorra is Andorra la Vella. It is a city of only 25,000 people and it is located within the Pyrenees Mountain range. The main drawback to this location is that it places it a three hour drive from the nearest airport; something that will need to be rectified at some point if Andorra hopes to continue growing their tourism industry. The rich culture, great food and historical monuments are definitely worth taking in however and the accommodations are excellent as well. Outside of Andorra la Vella, there is still a lot that people can do. Skiing and snowboarding are both big in Andorra and a number of major ski resorts are present around the country. Because of the country’s location, there is also a lot of mountain climbing to be had. Finally, Andorra is home to some cafes and restaurants that showcase a unique blend of Spanish and French cuisine; definitely something worth trying. As far as getting to Andorra is concerned, air would probably be your best bet. While the airports are far away from the capital, it is still better than driving into the mountains from either Spain or France; both of those plans would take you a day to accomplish. Three hours is definitely a much better drive, although if you are one for loving scenery, what you would get to look at during a drive from either Madrid or Paris to Andorra la Vella might well be justification enough to take that drive. |
